Our client, a large and well-respected public-sector provider based in the Weston-Super-Mare, is looking for an Energy and Sustainability Manager on a permanent basis.  Working as part of the Sustainability team, the Energy and Sustainability Manager will engage with internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver on the programmes as outlined in the business’s sustainable development strategy.  These will include, energy and water management, waste management, carbon reduction, sustainable and active travel, environmental legal compliance, sustainable design and construction, environmental management systems, communications and staff engagement.

The role of Energy and Sustainability Manager is incredibly varied, and the key duties and responsibilities will include;

  • Developing or assisting development of strategy, policy and procedures for the management of energy, utilities, waste, sustainable procurement, travel and transport
  • Receiving and evaluating complex information relating to energy management, carbon reduction, sustainability and governance matters
  • Carrying out surveys, reviewing new technologies and submitting recommendations
  • Presenting information to internal operational staff and senior management in a manner capable of influencing change, engaging them to participate in Green Impact and other sustainability initiatives
  • Supporting staff to identify and solve sustainability issues in the workplace, and in doing so improving upon service delivery
  • Identifying Spend to Save opportunities for the implementation of sustainability projects and submitting business cases for funding approval
  • Project managing sustainability programmes and producing monthly and annual reports on financial savings, social and environmental benefits
  • Overseeing tender processes, and appointing and managing external consultants and contractors within an authorised budget

Due to the nature of the Energy and Sustainability Manager, the successful candidate should have a degree or equivalent experience in energy and sustainability.  In order be able to quickly hit the ground running, experience of managing and promoting sustainable development, monitoring and managing carbon emissions, and managing energy or waste contracts would be preferred.  Please note, that while this position will be primarily based in Weston-Super-Mare, some occasional travel will be required to a second site in Bristol.
